Carbine Media are pleased to announce a new initiative aimed at reducing their carbon footprint.

The Carbine Neutral Initiative consists of the purchase of Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets (BRCOs) - helping to plant native trees and shrubs in areas of marginal and degraded farmland. The offsets are obtained through Carbon Neutral with all plantings undertaken in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor in Western Australia.

The benefits of this scheme are:

• Creating biodiversity habitat for rare and endangered flora and fauna
• Creating connectivity between existing remnant vegetation
• Restoring degraded areas damaged by salt, wind and water erosion
• Employment including local Indigenous people, and liaison with traditional owners
• Aboriginal heritage sites recognised and registered with the Department of Indigenous Affairs Registry
• Creating new industry in rural areas and expenditure with local businesses

The effects of climate change are inextricably entwined with health: ranging from the WHO estimate of 7 million deaths from polluted air; impacts of weather-related natural disasters; negative effects on crop yields and food security; to the shaping of social and environmental determinants of health.
